Use the fold angle as a virtual gnomon and watch the calculated shadow change.
Tilt your device and watch a shadow take shape on the dial. A small instrument for looking at light.
ShadowDial is a simple sundial app that estimates the Sun’s position from the current time and location, aligned using the compass’s true-north bearing, then draws a shadow on a virtual horizontal dial. When hinge-angle data is available, it sets the gnomon’s tilt; on regular phones the device tilt is used. Static images can be exported via the standard share sheet, but they do not contain latitude or longitude. Position data and sensor readings are processed locally with no history stored. No shadow is drawn at night. Because of bearing errors and magnetic interference, it is not suitable for navigation or precise observation. Requires iOS 17+. No ads; one‑time purchase: ¥400 (US$2.99).
